Trinity’s Child

Ares stormed into the Great Room. Mighty Zeus—King of the Gods sat on high in Olympus, beside him his wife—Queen Hera—surrounded by the other nine Olympians they made up the Twelve Olympians. Poseidon, Demeter, Hermes, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Athena, Apollo, Artemis and Hestia, all watched as Ares blast across the floor.

Hera stood from her thrown, “What is it, my son?” She opened her arms to welcome her beloved son.

“Yes Ares, what is your dilemma?” The thunderous voice of Zeus rang out.

“Dilemma? Dilemma Father? I will tell you the dilemma, that human woman.”

“That…Seria creature?” Hera asked her voice full of distaste and hatred.

“Yes Mother. I offered her a life as my mistress and she denied me. Me. Ares—God of War.”

“Oh for Zeus’s sake Ares,” the voice of Ares’ half-sister Athena, chimed in. “The mortal is not interested in you.”

Ares spun on his heels, his dark eyes burrowed into Athena, “Why are you here? I mean really, why?”

“Have you forgotten I am also seated as a member of the Twelve Olympians? Oh, and my father is the King of Gods.” A triumphant smile curled on her lips.

“You are here dear Athena, simply because your mother is one of my Father’s whores.”

“Ares that is enough,” Zeus stood, the columns shook under the strength of his voice. Thunder rolled through the clouds of Olympus. A hush fell over the Olympians, “If this mortal has refused you, then you have no choice but to abide by her wishes.”

“My King, our son does not have to abide by any mortal’s wishes. We are Gods and Goddesses, they bow to us. This human must suffer for her defiance.”

“That is not how things work Hera. Ares has made and an offer, she has refused. We were wrong, to side with him against her. The child’s prayed for our help for her ill father and we refused. Because of this, mortal has died.”

“Oh but Father, this human did not parish as he had been fated to do.

“Oh,” Zeus sat back into his thrown, “explain to what has happened.”

“An Archangel saved his life.”

“And what was the bargain the woman made with this—Archangel?” Zeus asked.

“There was not bargain. He just…did it.”

Zeus stroked the length of his beard, “Then it is done.”

“Mighty Zeus, we cannot allow the mortals to go beyond our temples when we deny them.” Hera’s shrill voice caught the air.

“Hera this is done. Ares, leave this human to her life. I forbid you further contact. Am I understood?”

“But Father—.”

“I have spoken!” Again the columns rocked.

“Yes Father. I will do as you command.”

Seria sat by the well drawing water when she heard a voice, “Seria.” Her name spoken as if carried by the wind.

The bucket of water fell from her hands. She rose to her feet and backed away from the well; she looked around but saw no one. “”Who is there?” Her voice trembled with fear.

“Seria, do not fear me.” The voice whispered.

“I only fear that which I cannot see, please reveal yourself.”

“I will come to you within the night, until then my dear Seria.”
